What exactly are Night Queen genetics?

Night Queen is a very resinous Afghan variety. It is one of our strongest indicas ever with a THC percentage of over 20%. This strain is a pure, un-hybridised Afghan Indica that was discovered in the 1980s. These cannabis genetics are based on an Afghani landrace. She has only been backcrossed with herself to keep the strain as pure as possible.

The result is a stable and robust Indica that develops very compact buds in addition to a compact plant structure. She can tolerate colder weather and has a fast flowering time of 8 weeks on average. The compactness of the buds also makes this strain easy and quick to manicure.

Night Queen is an easy to grow Indica dominant cannabis strain with a short flowering time. This cannabis strain is much loved by true Indica fans who appreciate a compact and highly potent Afghan Indica strain. She is known for a beautiful end result with a very strong knockout cannabis high. She has an average THC percentage of around 17-20%, which can be even higher when grown by an expert in perfect conditions.

This Indica produces really excellent results in soil (bio), coco fibre and hydroponics. These are compact, bushy plants with thick, stocky trunks and greasy-fingered leaves. The buds usually end up very compact and hard, so even the smaller plants give amazing yields. All this in a very short flowering period of about 56 days.

Like most ‘Afghanica' strains, this one is known for a thick white resin layer, which also makes her very suitable for making hash or other cannabis concentrates. It is therefore a suitable strain for pressing Rosin. Because the buds become so compact, she doesn't like wet/damp conditions to grow in. Around the Mediterranean region, Night Queen does an excellent job outdoors. Her plant structure can best be described as small and compact. The internode distance is also small, which allows the buds to grow nicely together.

She has a short stretching phase, so this should be taken into account. The hardness of the buds and few leaves ensures that these cannabis seeds produce plants that are easy to cut and manicure.

Night Queen is super strong. A small joint was more than enough for some members of our test team. Since even a sparingly rolled Night Queen joint hits the spot with style, your harvest will go a long way.

Growers will experience a powerful body stone, a strong Indica-style buzz. The effect is very pleasant and relaxing. Some users report that it helps them fall asleep. It is also a nice variety to hang out at home with. She gives a true couch-lock high that almost melts you into the sofa. Smoke a little more and you will experience a true knockout stone, ideal for late at night or just before going to sleep.

The mental effects of the high are less dominant, yet users experience strong feelings of euphoria and stress-reducing qualities. This strain can also provide a real munchies experience - an insatiable appetite! All in all, a very potent cannabis strain with a real knockout punch, strong enough for even the most experienced smokers!

The flowering time of Night Queen

Night Queen has a short flowering time of only 8 weeks. Some plants can even be a little faster and ready to harvest in as little as 7-7.5 weeks, especially when grown in perfect conditions. Due to the short stretching phase, the plants remain relatively compact and bushy. Normally it is recommended to have a vegetative phase of about 4-5 weeks for medium sized plants. If you really want your Night Queen plant to fill a large space, it is best to maintain a pre-growth period of at least 6-8 weeks.

Outdoors, Night Queen can take an average of 8-10 weeks to finish flowering. This is of course strongly related to the conditions that apply in the climate. In a sunny and dry climate she will flower faster than in a cold and wet climate. When grown outdoors at temperate latitudes (comparable to the Dutch climate) she will be ready for harvest around the end of September/beginning of October. Some phenotypes will require until mid/late October, especially when it's a bad/late summer.

Bear in mind that this strain does not like rain. Because of the compact nature of the buds, she becomes susceptible to mold. You also have to take this into account when there is a lot of morning dew. In a sunny/dry climate she performs fantastically outdoors and becomes very resinous.

The yield from Night Queen

Night Queen is a good yielding strain. She has been marked ‘L’ for large yields, though these are perhaps not quite as heavy as those from the largest XL yielding strains. You can of course solve this by giving her a longer pre-growth period therefore increasing your yield. On average, yields of about 400-450 grams per m2 can be achieved. In a SOG grow by an experienced grower, this can go even higher.

When grown outdoors, average yields of around 25-100 grams per plant are possible. This strain can handle a variety of conditions quite well. Short periods of cold or warm periods will not cause major problems. Night Queen is quite forgiving and even suitable for the novice grower. If you want to achieve the greatest possible yield, we recommend growing her in a hydro system with powerful LED lights. Under these conditions she grows the fastest and the buds usually reach their largest size.

Expert advice when growing Night Queen cannabis seeds

Night Queen has dark green leaves and a compact structure with a nice thick main bloom surrounded by many compact side buds. The flower-to-leaf ratio is excellent and easy to manicure. Make sure to wear gloves when cutting because the thick layer of resin will literally stick to everything! It is also best to have (olive) oil nearby to clean your equipment/scissors from time to time.

If you only work with a small number of plants, or even with 1 single plant, we recommend that you give the plants a longer pre-growth period. Especially when you grow her in a SCROG. She does not stretch very much during the flowering phase. Within about 2 weeks she has completely stopped stretching.

Keep in mind that her growth pattern is quite different from that of hybrids or Sativa-dominant plants. But she will reward you with very potent Indica buds. The only downside is that the buds are so compact that they become susceptible to mold towards the end of the flowering phase. Therefore keep your humidity as low as possible during late bloom (35-50%)!
