Adult residents of Luxembourg have the great privilege of being able to legally grow up to 4 cannabis plants per household. Under the new rules, over-18’s in Luxembourg will be able to grow up to 4 cannabis plants per household so long as the buds are for personal use and not sold. The cannabis seeds (or cuttings) can be grown indoors or outdoors in a private garden.

Cannabis seeds are permitted to be owned, sold and germinated in Luxembourg regardless of their potential THC content. In the longer term Luxembourg is looking at the possibility of issuing a couple of licensed production permits which would serve the 14 dispensaries across Luxembourg. But so far this complicated draft law hasn’t been finalised, leaving it to individual growers to take care of their own supply. In addition to the legal right to grow up to 4 cannabis plants, citizens are allowed up to 3g of weed for personal use. It is presumed that home growers won’t be prosecuted for exceeding that 3g limit with each harvest - 4 plants could easily allow growers to harvest 0.5Kg - 1Kg per grow cycle in the hands of an expert grower. However, possession, transportation or sale of cannabis in public places remains prohibited with small fines available to deter offenders. |

Outdoor cannabis growers may find it beneficial to germinate their cannabis seeds indoors and offer them a couple of weeks of indoor growth. This allows the plants a head-start, bathing under ideal conditions for the first few weeks of their lives while they are at their most vulnerable. Feminised seeds or autoflowering cannabis seeds for Luxembourg growers?
Much depends on the individual grower and their specific goals/situation. Feminised seeds and autoflower seeds each have their own strengths which the knowledgeable grower can exploit to great personal advantage.
Outdoor cannabis growers in Luxembourg:
Outdoor growers, especially those that start their autoflower seeds indoors, will find it possible to get 2-3 successive outdoor harvests each year.
Outdoor cannabis growers that prefer to grow with photoperiod feminised outdoor cannabis seeds will only be able to get one harvest per year. This would typically mean starting their cannabis seeds indoors and ideally giving them a few weeks of indoor growth under 18+ hours of daily light for extended cannabis vegetative growth. Plants would then be placed outdoors after the last frost has passed, perhaps around mid-May. Harvest would be around late September or early October.
Yields of several hundred grams per plant are possible. Multi-Kg yields could be possible in a greenhouse/poly tunnel. Although it won’t be possible to legally grow as many photoperiod plants as autos, the heavier yields from photoperiod feminised seeds will mean that many will prefer this approach. However, if any disaster strikes (pests, thieves, disease, weather…) then the photoperiod cannabis seed grower may lose a large part of their outdoor grow with little time to recover and re-plant new cannabis seeds.
Indoor cannabis growers in Luxembourg:
Autoflowering cannabis seeds typically take around 75 days to grow from seed to harvest. That allows up to 5 grow cycles per year for indoor growers, meaning that (5 grow cycles with 4 plants each) could allow up to 20 indoor autos to grow each year, completely legally. Harvests, (dependent on grow style, strain, conditions and grower experience) can be up to 100-200g per auto - that allows a huge potential annual haul.
The other option for indoor growers is to grow feminised cannabis seeds. These have a slightly slower total growth cycle, perhaps around 15+ weeks per cycle. Meaning that around 3 indoor grow cycles (with 4 plants each, total 12 plants) is possible. Some prefer to grow feminised seeds, others prefer autoflower seeds. Both types will produce heavy yields and potent buds if the indoor conditions are good and the best cannabis seeds are chosen.
Of course many indoor and outdoor growers will find that a mix of autoflower seeds and feminised seeds will allow maximum flexibility and options throughout the grow season.
One suggestion for indoor growers is to consider cannabis low stress training or high stress training techniques. These can improve yields. Other possibilities include use of the SCROG method, possibly in conjunction with long veg periods with photoperiod feminised seeds. This maximises individual plant yields - important for those limited to growing 4 cannabis plants at a time.
