Top 5 discontinued strains and their perfect match
Ever grown a classic cannabis strain with memorably epic results, only to find out the strain has subsequently been discontinued? The good news is that sometimes your favourite discontinued strains have a close genetic match which will allow you to continue enjoying the effects for many years to come.
Dutch Passion have been around since the1980’s. In that time, some very special strains have come and gone. Some iconic strains enjoy cult followings of loyal fans. If you have ever wanted to see a legendary cannabis strain, re-emerge like a phoenix from the grow room then this review is just for you!
Skywalker → Skywalker Haze
Dutch Passion Skywalker was a 1990’s high quality indica dominant hybrid made by crossing two cannabis cup winning legends, Mazar x Blueberry. Skywalker delivered the sweet dark berry taste of Blueberry and combined it with the pungent Afghani aromas of Mazar. High THC levels on Skywalker were assured by the proven consistency of both parent strains. Most Skywalker growers loved the supremely powerful, fast-acting effects alongside the generous yields.
Any Skywalker fans looking to rediscover the ganja of their younger years could find a similar quality effect from Skywalker Haze feminised seeds. Skywalker Haze was made by crossing original Skywalker with Amsterdam Amnesia. The reason to introduce Amsterdam Amnesia was to give a sativa twist to the classic Skywalker genetics as well as ensuring sky-high THC levels.
The mind-numbing effects of Amsterdam Amnesia ensure that Skywalker Haze is, if anything, slightly more potent than the original Skywalker. With XXL yields, any original Skywalker fans will enjoy slightly higher yields from Skywalker Haze than they got from original Skywalker. With THC levels around 20% Skywalker Haze qualifies for the Very High THC cannabis seed collection, home to some of Dutch Passion’s most powerful marijuana seeds.
If you prefer autoflower seeds to feminised cannabis seeds then you should definitely check out Auto Skywalker Haze, with her epic 26% independently confirmed THC levels. These are currently the highest THC levels ever seen on an autoflower strain. Original Skywalker may have gone, but many would say that the replacements (Skywalker Haze & Auto Skywalker Haze) are a substantial improvement.

Lemon Zkittle → Auto Lemon Kix®
Lemon Zkittle was a sensational original member of Dutch Passion's USA Special cannabis seed collection. The rare genetics came directly from the USA and had an incredibly sweet and fruity taste just like a certain well known brand of candies from USA.
Lemon Zkittle growers would hang out in their grow rooms for far longer than required just to breathe in and savour the powerful connoisseur aromas. Rub your fingers on the buds and you would enjoy a long-lasting, sweet candy skunky scent. Lemon Zkittle grew like a boss with heavy yields and brutal potency.
Why did they ever discontinue these exceptional USA cannabis genetics? Rumour had it that lawyers took a dim view of the cannabis community using the ‘Zkittle’ name. The Lemon Zkittle name had to be withdrawn. But the good news is that the genetics are the same, just under a different name. Today only the autoflowering version, Auto Lemon Kix, is available. While the name has changed, it’s the same iconic Las Vegas Lemon Skunk genetics with the trademark sweet candy taste and nose-tingling aroma.
Fans of ultra-potent strains will be pleased to note that Auto Lemon Kix is part of Dutch Passion’s elite Extremely High THC cannabis seed family. This is reserved only for the strongest handful of Dutch Passion cannabis seeds which can produce buds with 20-25% THC levels.

Freddy's Best → Amsterdam Amnesia
Freddy’s Best was an old-school sativa made from a 3-way cross of Chocolope, Dutch Haze and an unnamed gene-bank sativa. She enjoyed good yields and a soaring sativa high. The high THC levels from Freddy’s Best made her a popular repeat cannabis seed choice with hard-core sativa fans that enjoyed the blistering effects unique to purebred sativa genetics.
Freddy’s Best was in the collection for many years until she made way for some of the newer modern genetics. But lovers of high-performance sativa genetics needn’t worry! Amsterdam Amnesia is the finest example of the Amnesia line ever found by Dutch Passion. If you enjoyed Freddy’s Best, Amsterdam Amnesia will blow you away. The best Amnesia genetics come from Amsterdam, once you have experienced them you will understand the Amnesia hype for yourself!
Amsterdam Amnesia boasts some trademark features. Vape/smoke a little too much and you will literally forget what you were doing, hence the ‘Amnesia’ name. The Dutch Passion version - Amsterdam Amnesia - comes with XXL yields, a 9-10 weeks bloom time and very high THC levels which will be around (and perhaps just over) 20%. These are classic cannabis genetics which any grower should experience, they can be found in the Dutch Passion Classic Cannabis seed family.
Twilight → Purple #1®
Twilight was a sativa dominant hybrid, created for outdoor growers. The tough, dependable cannabis genetics performed well outdoors. Often, she would be planted outdoors in May (earlier, in mild grow climates) after the last frost had passed.
Harvest would be around early October. Yields were good, rather than XXL and these outdoor cannabis seeds were easy to grow across a wide range of conditions. Twilight could even be grown in tough, uncompromising northern European climates similar to those in The Netherlands.
Purple #1 is a classic purple cannabis strain. She is often regarded as one of the first purple outdoor-capable strains to hit the market in the 1980s. Purple #1 is a 50-50 hybrid cross between a purple Afghani variety and some top sativa varieties bred in Holland.
Any Twilight fans looking for a reminiscent blast from the past should check her out. The effects are just as good, with similar THC levels. If anything, yields may be somewhat heavier than those from Twilight.

Ultra Skunk → Euforia®
Ultra Skunk was, as the name suggests, one of the first of the highly potent ‘modern’ skunk strains. She was a particularly popular cannabis seed choice in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Like all good skunks, Ultra Skunk was easy to grow and adapted well to a range of grow conditions and grow styles. Potency was good and so were the yields.
For some of the first European home growers, Ultra Skunk enjoyed a reputation for great quality harvests and respectable yields. But like some of the other early cannabis strains, talented breeders were able to surpass these early breeding efforts.
Tips and tricks in the breeding and seed production were found which could improve seed performance. Furthermore, some of the alternative skunk genetics were becoming available which were simply just a little bit better and more consistent.
Euforia is a high quality upgrade for anyone looking for a replacement for original Ultra Skunk. She is available in regular cannabis seeds as well as feminised seeds. Euforia is just as easy to grow, if not a little easier. THC levels are very high, and the bloom time of around 8 weeks is perhaps marginally faster than Ultra Skunk.

Fans of autoflowering cannabis seeds should consider Auto Euforia. Seed to harvest time is around 10-11 weeks under 20 hours of daily indoor light. Yields are XL and THC levels are officially rated as very high.

Where to find discontinued products from Dutch Passion
Although Dutch Passion no longer supply old classics like Skywalker, Lemon Zkittle, Freddy’s Best, Twilight or Ultra Skunk you may still be able to find these cannabis seeds in the shops or resellers. Sometimes the seeds are kept in fridges at resellers for several years. So you may still be able to find some of your old favourites.
However, one general trend over recent years has been a move towards strains with higher cannabinoid/terpene levels and (where possible) yield improvements too. That has meant that some, but by no means all, of the early strains have had to make way for modern improvements. But Dutch Passion keeps a large gene-bank of original 1970’s and 1980’s cannabis seeds in the deep freeze for future studies and projects.
It’s worth mentioning that some of Dutch Passion's pioneering work on Special Cannabinoid cannabis seeds has been done using rare gene-bank strains. This has allowed new strains rich in unusual cannabinoids such as CBG, THCV and CBDV to emerge.

Although there is often a certain sense of nostalgia associated with older, legacy cannabis strains it’s worth remembering that the discontinued strains only disappeared because other more desirable strains had become available.
