Top 5 cannabis strains to grow in a SCROG

Cannabis cultivation with the SCROG method (SCReen Of Green) uses a physical screen, often a metal mesh with e.g. 5cm squares, to restrict vertical plant growth. The stem and branches are weaved through the mesh or clipped/attached to it with cable ties. This forces horizontal growth and restricts vertical growth.
When done well, a cannabis SCROG grow will have numerous blooms all growing at the same height and the same distance from the grow light. This allows all the blooms to bathe in the optical ‘sweet spot’ with maximised PPFD light levels. The result can be extravagant plant yields, superior to those produced by naturally grown plants. Some repeat SCROG growers won’t grow with any other method!
Growing cannabis with the SCROG method may seem a little bit more time consuming and perhaps a little more demanding than a normal grow. But once you are used to the process it seems quite routine. Read on to find out which Dutch Passion feminised seeds and autoflower seeds will give the best results with SCROG and why.
If you haven’t tried cannabis SCROG growing yet then you may want to check out the highly detailed Dutch Passion SCROG bible, below, which explains absolutely everything you need to know with pro-tips from SCROG masters.

Best cannabis seeds to grow in a SCROG
Many cannabis strains can be grown with the SCROG method. But some strains (such as pure indica varieties) have broad-fingered leaves which aren’t perhaps quite as good as a thin-fingered sativa strains at allowing light penetration through the dense SCROG canopy.
Some indica strains can have branches that are prone to snapping. Low levels of stretch with pure indica strains can also mean the process of ‘filling the screen’ can take longer compared to e.g. a sativa dominant hybrid.
Experienced SCROG growers often (but not always) lean slightly more towards sativa or sativa dominant hybrids simply for the slightly easier grow experience. More indica-based strains can be used, perhaps with longer periods of vegetative growth to fill the SCROG screen. Those that enjoy growing autoflower seeds will find many suitable options.
SCROG growing isn't as tricky or intimidating as it may initially seem. You can grow cannabis with the SCROG method whether you’re a soil, coco or hydroponics grower. With a little bit of planning and a tiny amount of daily maintenance you may find that the SCROG method allows your grow room to become considerably more productive.
If you have never tried the SCROG method before, you could be in for quite a surprise. Especially if you select some top SCROG strains. Even first time SCROG growers have produced some outstanding results. Here are Dutch Passions top cannabis seeds for SCROG:

What to look out for when growing cannabis in a SCROG
SCROG growers sometimes tend to plan their grow in a little more detail than those that allow plants to grow in the natural way. Good SCROG growers will research their strains carefully, looking for proven recommendations from suppliers and other SCROG growers.
Strains with flexible branches rather than brittle branches (which snap easily) are preferred. Strains which continue to stretch for a few weeks in bloom allow the SCROG screen to fill more easily. SCROG growers also look to create an easy-to-use (and re-usable) SCROG screen.
Metal screens with 5cm holes (from DIY stores) are suitable, either for weaving branches through the holes or for clipping branches to the screen with plastic cable ties.
Some SCROGGers use a flat screen. Others will use a half-pipe arrangement with the side raised up. The aim is to have all the blooms equidistant from the light source at optimum PPFD levels. Get all that right and you can look forward to a killer SCROG grow!
