AutoMazar – the variety that created an AutoFem revolution

Occasionally a new iconic marijuana variety comes along which seems to change far more things than you initially imagined.  For Dutch Passion, and for our customers, AutoMazar was such a variety.  It signalled the start of a new era where the modern AutoFem could deliver genuinely potent weed, quickly and in quantities that some people never believed possible.   

The photo’s in this weeks blog are AutoMazars grown by satisfied DP growers Kennedy and Seymour Buds. There is also a time-lapse video to show you AutoMazar grown from seed to a 117gram dry harvest under a 600W HPS in soil.

The AutoMazar story began in 2011, and it gave the self-sufficient cannabis grower a 70-day alternative to the traditional varieties.  The world of cannabis growing had changed. The AutoFem breeding process had been steadily improving for a few years.  The original AutoFems had a lot in common with Ruderalis, they were dwarf like, they did not yield much bud, and the bud itself was not as potent as people wanted.  But some clever and determined selection and breeding had allowed some breakthrough varieties which were redefining AutoFem performance.



AutoMazar was a landmark AutoFem variety in more ways than one. Throughout early 2011 we heard of customers getting 100 gram yields from a single plant, then 150 grams.  Eventually a Dutch Passion customer got 200 grams from a single plant grown under 600W HPS.  Even a few of the Dutch Passion team began to scratch their heads, could AutoFem’s really have got this good?  If so how had it happened?  The Ruderalis genetics were allowing the AutoFem’s to flower with 20 hours of daily light.  This was giving some serious yields with potency levels equivalent to normal varieties.  And all this in just 70 days.  AutoFem’s were especially popular with people that had never grown marijuana before.

Here at Dutch Passion we upgraded the breeding process for all of our AutoFems to the same high standards as AutoMazar.  Even our original AutoFem’s were now substantially improved and producing very heavy blooms. 

Then in late 2011 we saw an absolutely amazing 350gram yield from an AutoMazar grown in a high-performance DWC (deep water culture) hydro system.  It was grown by new Dutch Passion friend Seymour Buds under a high quality LED panel from Hydrogrow LED.  Over 20 very large blooms were produced, even growers of traditional marijuana had rarely seen anything quite like it.

And the incredible tales of AutoMazar just kept coming.  Many of the top auto-grows were performed in hydro which allowed the rapid growth levels.  But part of the attraction is the versatility of AutoFems which allow them to grow well indoors or outdoors under different grow conditions.  Hobby-growers using coco fibre were also reporting heavy yields of great pot.

AutoMazar helped give AutoFems the credibility they needed.  People that had never grown Autofem’s were buying a pack to try.  A new AutoFem fan club was emerging, customers continued to give great feedback.  Dutch Passion seed distributors were telling us great things about AutoFems and were ordering them in quantities that just kept growing each month.  Dedicated websites were emerging where AutoFem fans could meet up and share experiences.  The occasional AutoFem will require 2-3 weeks of extra time before they finish blooming, these often yield very heavily and are referred to as ‘super-autos’ by AutoFem fans.

Today AutoMazar has become a best-seller.  Many of the customers tell us they are repeat growers and the main reason they grow AutoMazar is the great harvests after just 11 weeks.  Some AutoMazar growers admit that they have never tried any of our other AutoFems simply because they don’t see the need to change a variety which they know and love.  Medical growers are among the repeat buyers of this variety.

AutoMazar seems to have given people the confidence to try AutoFems.  A few weeks ago we published the grow diary of ‘Insert Name Here’ who harvested 293g of quality bud from 3 Dutch Passion Tundra’s.  AutoFem’s are easy to grow.  Just plant the seed and leave it under a light cycle of 20 hours lights-on followed by 4 hours lights-off.

And AutoFem’s continue to get better.  Dutch Passion followed AutoMazar with Think Different, and that also is achieving amazing results.  And it doesn’t stop there.  Dutch Passion StarRyder has just been announced and that is another heavy yielding and very strong AutoFem marijuana that is ready in around 70 days from seed.  Dutch Passion continues to invest a great deal of time and effort into the continuous improvement of AutoFem’s.  They just keep getting better! If you haven’t tried growing AutoFem’s yet then maybe it is time to try them, you may be pleasantly surprised.
