USA. White House officials slam costly failure of 'war on drugs'
Michael Botticelli is the current director in the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy. He is responsible for setting out the future national drug policy and is one of the most powerful insiders able to influence USA drug policy.
The host of TV show "60 Minutes" asked if the costly 'war on drugs’ that has been in place for more than 40 years had been wrong. Botticelli was very plain and blunt for what he called the "failed policies and failed practices" of the past, noting that those policies were largely responsible for the costly policy of mass-incarceration in USA jails.
