USA. CNN claim the war on drugs is a 'trillion dollar failure'
Even mainstream US media outlets such as CNN are now publically criticising the continued futile, yet expensive and damaging, ‘war on drugs’.
In 1925 one of the most influential writers of his day, H. L. Mencken, wrote an impassioned plea about the failure of the prohibition of alcohol: "Prohibition has not only failed in its promises but actually created additional serious and disturbing social problems throughout society. There is not less drunkenness in the Republic but more. There is not less crime, but more. ... The cost of government is not smaller, but vastly greater. Respect for law has not increased, but diminished."
The parallels between the failed prohibition of alcohol and the current attempts to prohibit cannabis are very clear. This is worth reading to see just how quickly public opinion is shifting in favour of the legalise cannabis community. Just 15 years ago many in the mainstream media were claiming cannabis was a gateway drug leading to a lifetime of misery and psychosis. How things are changing.
