USA. Cannabis grabs the attention of diabetes researchers

USA.  International interest in the medical uses of cannabis is reaching an all time high as study after study is highlighting more benefits to the use of pot by responsible adults.  Previous studies by researchers into diabetes has shown thatpot users are less likely to be obese and have a lower risk for diabetes and have lower body-mass-index measurements compared to the general population. And thesefindings were seen despite the fact that stoners often seem to take in more calories.  Indeed, many medical marijuana users consume cannabis specifically for appetite enhancement.

But why is this ? "The most important finding is that current users of marijuana appeared to have better carbohydrate metabolism than non-users," explains Murray Mittleman, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.  Prof Mittleman is also the senior author of the study, and he explained how the stoner metabolism is altered by cannabis "Their fasting insulin levels were lower, and they appeared to be less resistant to the insulin produced by their body to maintain a normal blood-sugar level."

Who knows how many other wonderful uses the doctors will discover for cannabis?  The next few years will be embarassing for those that have campaigned against cannabis on health grounds!
