Canada. Trudeau hits out at absurd cannabis laws

Canada.  Leader of Canada's Liberal Party, Justin Trudeau says he is NOT worried about being denied access over the USA border following his admission that he has smoked pot since becoming an MP in 2008.

Some immigration experts have said that technically, the admission of drug usage could hinder free movement into the USA.  Trudeau has been a loud voice for Canadian drug reform, and since he outed himself several other Canadian politicians have also admitted to enjoying the occasional spliff.

When reminded that his pot use could allow US border agents to detain him, Trudeau said that it highlighted the absurd nature of the current laws. There are now 20 states in the US which allow pot to be used legally.  So it seems yet another ridiculous legal anomaly that a Canadian would be refused US entry for admitting pot use when it is legally permitted in the US.  The good news is that the continued debate about cannabis use amongst politicians highlights the unsustainable laws which prohibit the use of cannabis.  Lets hope the debate in Canada leads to some more relaxed cannabis laws in North America.
